What is Stigma as it relates to mental health?
The President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health defines stigma as “a cluster of negative attitudes and beliefs that motivate the general public to fear, reject, avoid, and discriminate against people with mental illness.”
Why is Stigma such an important issue?
Stigma affects more people than you think, and has a greater impact on younger people. And when people feel stigmatized, they are less likely to seek the help they need to live a fuller, happier, more productive life.
